Holidays have a way of bringing people together. And after the recent mid-term elections it seems like we need a little unity now more than ever. Luckily, Thanksgiving is just around the corner. This is America’s holiday and the long weekend that follows gives us the chance to spend time with family and friends. We should all grateful to live in a country that provides so much opportunity. And along with Thanksgiving, we get another uniquely American holiday. . . Black Friday! A retail celebration and the official kickoff of the December holiday season!
Thanksgiving Three Ways.
While most of us celebrate Thanksgiving, the way we celebrate the holiday has evolved over the years. Some still look forward to a big, traditional feast, centered around a turkey with all the family favorite side dishes. Others take a less traditional approach. I have friends that spend the entire day in their pajamas, watching movies and eating pizza. One lady I used to work with told me a funny story of a disastrous attempt at a traditional Thanksgiving dinner that ended with the entire family enjoying sushi at a Japanese restaurant!
Thanksgiving at the Mansbart's.
My family’s Thanksgiving traditions include both expected and surprising activities. I spend the day with family and friends. We keep it simple. I always cook the turkey because everyone loves the way it comes out! I don’t have any special secret, except that I use rosemary in the cavity of the turkey because it gives a great flavor to the bird and the drippings.... lol. Here’s another secret. . . I roast it in a bag! The day is casual, a little loud at times, filled with laughter and always makes new memories. It really doesn’t matter how you celebrate Thanksgiving or the traditions you and your family have. Whether it’s turkey, pizza, or sushi, casual or formal or even in pajamas, the important thing is to spend time being thankful for the blessings we have. Everyone has something to be grateful for, and sometimes the best things are the little things.
Black Friday at the Race Track.
The next day my son, Matthew, and I always go to Daytona Beach for the biggest car show in Florida, the Turkey Rod Run. It takes place in the infield of the race track! For cars lovers like me, it’s the coolest place filled with lots of fun times. When Matthew was younger he bought parts for the first two motorcycles he built, then when he bought his car at the age of 12 he started buying car parts. He always said, "One day I am going to drive my car to Turkey Run", now he swaps cars there. Once I took my Uncle John on the first Thanksgiving weekend he spent with us. Now my whole family is hooked. We’ve been going for 13 years now and still get excited about the event.

The healthiest and best-looking skin doesn’t happen by accident. It requires a good skin care line of products, free from chemicals and all natural, like the line from NOSI Skincare. It also requires a consistent regimen of care. That means using the right products in the right order, every day, without fail. It takes commitment as well as an investment in products and time. Good products + the right regimens provide a payoff of beautiful skin and the confidence you get from looking your best.
Good Morning. . . Sweet Dreams
You should have a morning skincare regimen as well as one in the evening. Some products, like toner, serums, and moisurizers can be used at both times. The regimen in the morning will be different than it is in the evening. The morning regimen focuses on protection, while the evening regimen is all about cleansing.
When you wake up, your face should be clean from the night before. Instead of washing it again you may be able to simply rinse your face with cool water and pat it dry.
In the evening, cleansing is essential to remove all makeup and dirt trapped in the oil that your face naturally produces during the day. Before you wash your face, be sure to start by washing your hands. Since you will be using your fingers during the cleansing process, you must be sure they are clean and oil-free. Once your hands are clean, massage a dime-size to a nickel-size amount of cleanser into the skin with fingers or a soft facial brush for two minutes in a circular motion. Rinse well with tepid water. Pat dry to avoid unnecessary stretching of the skin which can cause you to lose elasticity. It’s especially important to pat dry and/or sensitive skin to prevent irritation from the towel being dragged across the skin.
Use A Toner to Maintain PH
As part of your evening regimen after the cleanser, use a toner like NOSI’s alcohol-free Mandarin Balancing Toner to remove residue from cleanser, makeup, and hard water. It also helps to maintain the skin’s optimum PH levels and prepares the skin for all other products. The chamomile extract is a powerful healer that is soothing to the skin. Apply using a cottonball in a circular motion. Wait a few minutes for the toner to absorb before applying any other products to the skin.
Now that the face is clean and dry, apply the rest of your skin care products in the order of consistency, from the thinnest serums and gels to the thickest creams. It’s important to start with the thinnest so they penetrate the skin better.
Next Come the Serums
Serums can be used in both the morning and the evening regimens and are used to combat hyperpigmentation, acne, fine lines and wrinkles. Serums penetrate the skin effectively because they contain smaller molecules. For that reason, you don’t want a barrier between serums and the skin. Using your ring finger, dab tiny dots on forehead cheeks, chin, and neck. Use about a pea-size to a dime-size amount. It’s important to use your ring finger to apply the serum because the ring finger has the softest touch and creates the least amount of pressure on the skin. Once the skin is dotted, use short, light strokes spreading upwards and outwards from each dot you have applied. Never stretch or pull the skin during application.
It's all in the Eyes
A good eye cream should be used in the morning and at night. “The area around your eyes is the first place to show visible signs of aging, fine lines, and wrinkles,” says Miami dermatologist Gary Goldfaden, MD. The skin is thinner and more sensitive than any other area of your face so extra care and attention are needed. Pat a pea-size amount of cream on the under eye area, again using your ring finger. Start below the inner corner of the eyes and move out toward your temple. NOSI offers two great eye treatments. One is the Eye Remedy Microcirculation Treatment. Haloxyl TM lessens under eye dark circles and inflammation by eliminating the blood restriction in that area. Eyes will look brighter, dark circles will vanish and eye bags will diminish. The other is a Cucumber Peptide Eye Creme. It’s formulated with argerline and Syn-coll TM, potent peptides known to moisturize and protect against free radical damage. Both eye creams protect, soften fine lines and wrinkles, and firm and smooth skin. You can use day and night!
Don't forget to Moisturize!
Now it’s time to moisturize. Moisturizing prevents dehydration and seals all of the other products used into the skin, so it is essential to use it both in the morning and at night. Dab about a dime-size amount (more or less depending on how dry your skin is) on your forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, and neck using your first two fingers and massage gently into your skin spreading upwards and outwards from each dab of moisturizer. Be sure to use the moisturizer made for your skin, whether it be oily or dry.
The last part of the morning regimen should be sunscreen. Wait about two minutes before applying sunscreen so the moisturizer can dry.
Once a week, during your evening regimen and after you cleanse, it’s a good idea to use a scrub or mask suitable for your skin type. I’m a firm believer in seasonal masks and scrubs made with natural ingredients that come from your kitchen. Here is a great one, just in time for Thanksgiving. . .
Pumpkin Pie Scrub:
½ cup of brown sugar
¼ cup of coconut oil
¼ tsp. Of Vitamin E oil
¼ tsp of pumpkin pie spice
OR ¼ tsp of cinnamon.
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Apply with your fingertips using a gentle, circular motion. Splash with warm water to rinse and pat dry.
The formula is simple, good products + the right regimens = beautiful skin. Following a skincare regimen in both the morning and at nighttime is important, but to experience the payoff of beautiful, age-defying skin requires a commitment to consistency and good quality products like those from NOSI Skincare. Follow this formula and you’ll always look your best. NOSI is a proud member of the Better Business Bureau, and I’m always available for a private chat about skincare that’s right for you.
